[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]I love names.  I love talking about names with other people.  Over a year ago, I was talking with my close friends and mentors Scott and Katelyn and I was sharing with Katelyn that one of my favorite names is Haven, which means “safe place of refuge”.  I love this name because it reminds me that the Lord is our safe place of refuge: “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge” (Psalm 91:4).  Katelyn immediately froze with amazement and said that her and Scott were talking about naming their next child Haven.  After Katelyn got pregnant, the Lord really confirmed that name in all its fulness as a reflection of who this child was.

Fast forward to March of this year.  The day that Haven was born, I had a vision to write a song for Haven that her parents could sing over her life.  A song that would capture her namesake and the love of her Savior.  The day after Haven was born, I sat down and wrote the lyrics to the song “Haven”.  The words flowed straight from the Lord’s heart onto paper.  So it was that the song “Haven” was born just hours after Haven was born.  Recognizing the diversity of gifts in the body of Christ, I quickly sent the lyrics to my friend Nick for whom music flows in much the same way that words do to me.

I waited in eager anticipation to see what beauty Nick would create with the lyrics the Lord had given me.  When the Lord starts something, he finishes it and this was no exception.

This whole process has been led by the Holy Spirit and its to Jesus that we sing this song. Our desire is that this song would set a fire in the souls of believers to understand and believe the depths of Christ’s love for them.  But ultimately, to be faithful to the vision, this song will remain now and always, Haven’s song; a love song from her Savior.

The lyrics reflect the growth process that Haven went and is going through and shows the hand of Jesus through it all. From the beginning (in the womb), Jesus is singing over us. In and through our sin, His grace is our strength and it is by his scars we are healed (Isaiah 53:5). Only the love of Jesus can truly change us at the heart level and tell us who are: we are sons and daughters of the king.  That is the truest thing about us.

God, you made us
You made everything
God, I’ll trust in you

It was from the beginning, you were singing over me
Even now, you are singing over me

Jesus, our bright and morning star
We are rescued by your scars

Be our Haven Lord
Be our Haven Lord

When I’m in, in my sin, lord I turn my face from thee
Thy grace alone, my strength shall be

Jesus, our bright and morning star
We are rescued by your scars

Be our Haven Lord
Be our Haven Lord

This love too great to grasp
Is moving through my soul
It’s changing who I’ve been
It tells me who I am
